Why we love CEREC! (and so should you!)- Cerec in Richmond

Item posted on Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

With CEREC in our clinic, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, onlay, or veneer!

For you, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule  .So, why are thousands of people world wide choosing Cerec? Most dental restorative methods require more than one visit to the dentist. This means that on the first visit, you get an injection , your tooth prepared, an impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on your tooth. You make a second appointment  a couple of weeks later, get another injection, have the temporary pried off (if it hasn’t fallen off already), and have a permanent restoration put on.

Why go to the dentist a second time when you don’t have to?

With CEREC its done in a single appointment, start to finish. We scan your tooth into a computer and in less than 15 minutes we can design and mill a new tooth from solid porcelain ! We then glue the tooth in place and it’s done, a permanent all ceramic new tooth in one visit !
Worldwide, a CEREC restoration is placed every 20 seconds. With a history of nearly 20 years, this has helped dentists place over 6 million restorations. Using metal free materials that are the closest to your natural enamel, CEREC gives you the highest quality restorative care which is why we have invested in this system for our clinic.

Cartegena- A unique Place for Training! – Bicon implants in Richmond

Item posted on Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

One of the biggest problems when replacing missing teeth with implants is having enough bone. One Boston company, Bicon, makes a special implant for these situations and their training course is in Cartagena in Colombia. Jason went out to Colombia in November to this unique country for a weeks training.

Myself and two collegues from New York and Dubai had a weeks intensive surgical training in this  implant system at the Dental Institute in Cartagena under a specialist surgeon flown in from Rome. The course was fantastic, but it was surpassed by the beauty of Cartagena and the extraordinary patients and staff at the clinic who were so generous and kind.

Since returning I have been utilising this system on our clients and those sent to me by the my referring dentists with great success, but I’m trying to find an excuse to go back to Colombia for more training!

Born and raised in Launceston, Tasmania. Launceston is a small city, on a little island off the south coast of Australia. NOT to be confused with New Zealand!! As a Tasmanian, I enjoyed the small city life and family vacations on regular basis.

At the start of my twenties I moved to Queensland in search of bigger and better things. Hotter weather and being young meant that I stopped on the gold coast for 18 months before going a further hour north to Brisbane. This is where I was introduced into the dental industry and completed my full qualification as a dental nurse.

I moved to the UK in March 2011, for the purpose of travelling Europe and London has become my home base. I joined the Whitehouse Dental Clinic in June 2011 as a receptionist. After 7 months I am slowly but surely remembering names and faces of our long term clients and enjoy warmly welcoming new comers to our fantastic practice.

I have just recently returned from a weekend trip in Iceland to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. I was lucky enough to see this spectacular sight, as well as an amazing half frozen waterfall and a geysir!! Next destinations are Austria and Egypt!

You will see me here until March 2013 before I off on my most epic adventure yet. Africa, India, Europe, Scandinavia and Russia!!!!

Dental Did You Know: The Price of John Lennon’s Tooth.

Apparently, John Lennon’s molar was sold for about $31000 at the Omega Auction House on November 4th. It went for double its listed price and was originally given by him to his former housekeeper. It is also reported to be now in the possession of a Canadian dentist (not confirmed and not me :)

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Some Dental Resolutions for the New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone! May it be happy, healthy and prosperous!

Just wanted to give some dental resolutions that could be implemented with a little effort to ensure a great smile for the New Year:

  1. Brush 2 minutes twice a day…yes, I said 2 minutes (not 1 minute or 30 seconds or once a day). It really does take that long to clean the majority of surfaces your mouth decently.
  2. Floss…yes, I know you tend to do it before dental appointments. However, 40% of your teeth are not being cleaned if you don’t do it and a substantial percentage of cavities start in those areas
  3. Clean your tongue. I would say 95% of patients don’t do this. A couple of quick swipes on the tongue is usually enough.
  4. Reduce your intake of candies/sweets: it will reduce the incidence of cavities, improve your blood sugar and weight.
  5. Drink more water. In moderation, this a great thing, especially after staining drinks like coffee, tea and wine. Want to reduce all that coffee/tea stain between hygiene appointments? Take a sip or two of water after you finish your drink.
  6. Regular maintenance appointments. Seeing your Doc/Hygienist for a checkup and scaling is truly the dental version of the oil change. Prevention is always the best option.
  7. Get things fixed while they are small (don’t procrastinate). Dentistry seemingly operates on an exponential cost scale as things get more involved and complex. Getting a restoration that costs a couple of hundred dollars (and is usually covered by insurance) is much better for you and your pocketbook than letting it turn into a multi-thousand dollar root canal/core/crown or implant

Do teeth define tour personality??

Saw this infographic from Carrington College’s Dental Assisting Program in California. I’m not sure I agree with the personality aspects of this graphic, but it’s interesting to note what is out there in terms of information.
